Transforming an Heirloom Ring into a Diamond Pendant

Gigi Diamond pendant in boxI absolutely love this pendant, it's like a piece of sunshine on your neck! I also love it's story because it combines an heirloom ring of one person with the earring of another person. A few months ago, a young man asked me to help sell his late mother's engagement ring. Here's the image of the ring before:

It was a beautiful hand made engagement ring, size 4, and in a style that was the fashion at the time it was made. Recently, one of my customer's showed me a diamond earring which she had lost the match for it and was wondering what she could do with it. Here's the earring!

The picture shows the earring on its side. It's a beautiful earring, a very refined work with post and clip back. This is when I got the idea of turing the ring into a pendant! I would cut the shank and the raised wire work of the ring, lowering it's height and re-do the center prongs so that the diamond sits lower. This would make the ring into a beautiful flower, the center piece of the pendant. Then I would solder the earring to the flower making the earring into a beautiful diamond bale, that flows into the center piece. It's the marriage of the old and the new, two very refined pieces coming together and each one serving its unique purpose. Here's another picture:

And I'm naming it Gigi Diamond Pendant, for Gigi! Now the young gentleman knows his late mother's engagement ring has gone into a great use where its once again worn and appreciated and Gigi's earring has found its new use as a beautiful bale for a beautiful pendant! Gigi I love your diamond pendant, wear and enjoy it!!
