Making of a Sapphire and Diamond Surprise Engagement Ring for Audra!

Audra's ring is a surprise engagement ring! Her fiancé to-be wanted to have a sapphire engagement ring with diamonds. First, I brought a few sapphires to look at and choose from. Joe chose my favorite one from the sapphires that I had brought! A gorgeous cushion cut Ceylon sapphire weighing 2.44 carats. We went through the images of Audra that Joe showed me, which is something that I always ask for, and among the images were a couple showing her hand. Audra's hand had a very smooth and clean look. This is a hand that needed a very elegant and clean design, and definitely sweet and interesting! Based on Audra's hand structure and the shape of the sapphire, I suggested pear shape diamonds for the sides. The design that I sketched and eventually made, has an elegant and timeless top view with a very interesting and clean side view. I decided to end the base of the prongs, holding the sapphire, within the basket and open up underneath the pear shape side baskets that hold the pears. This gives a very clean and uncomplicated side view to the ring and, in the future, the wedding band will sit flush next to the engagement ring! Here's a side view:
