I was recently presented with an amazing opportunity to participate in a fabulous charity event. Rescue the Runway was a passion project born from two rescue animal advocates, Brittany Bang of Audrey’s Rescue Angels, and Michelle Fournier of Durty Harry’s Doggie Boutique and Spa. When approached with the idea of designing a custom piece of jewelry for the event’s silent auction, I knew I wanted to contribute to this amazing cause. As an animal lover myself, this event stood for everything I love–local businesses, animal rescue, fashion, and of course Boston spirit.
I quickly settled on the idea of a design centered on a unique paw print and began sketching a few customized paw prints, knowing I wanted a certain element of style and and modernity in the image. At first I envisioned a diamond pavé paw print, but being inspired by the realistic elements of an actual paw, I thought a faceted onyx would be the perfect accent. I drew a round charm with a cut out paw and the combination immediately came to me–rose gold and black onyx. A chic and modern combination!
The 14k rose gold charm is 10 millimeter in diameter and 4.3 millimeter deep. The gold is cut out in the shape of a paw print and a custom cut black onyx is set inside of the rounded rose gold charm. What makes this design truly special is that if you flip the pendant over, it is a gorgeous solid charm of black onyx outlined in matte rose gold! On its 14k rose gold 1.3 millimeter chain, this pendant sits beautifully on the neck.
A few days after finishing the design, I headed over to the gorgeous ballroom at the Colonnade hotel to mingle among Boston’s finest with cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvres at Rescue the Runway. Mike Napoli, Janet Wu, Shawn Thornton and many more Boston notables all walked down a runway with adorable adoptable dogs by their side. It was a night to remember!
I didn’t walk away with a puppy (I came close!) but I felt wonderful to have contributed to animal rescue. 100% of proceeds from my necklace went to animal rescue organizations.
And the great news for you is that I came up with a cost effective way to produce this same paw pendant, and it is now available for purchase online for $550.
