A couple of months ago, a wonderfully intelligent and pleasant young man came to have a three stone diamond engagement ring custom made for his long time girlfriend. He was specific and detail oriented and wanted to have a perfect, colorless square diamond with pear shapes on the sides. This was going to be a surprise, so I asked him to send me a few pictures of his girlfriend and maybe a snapshot of her hand. He was wonderfully attentive to what she likes, so he wanted a floral inspired idea coupled with my "Kiss" motif.
I first brought in a few radiant cut and princess cut diamonds for him to look at, once he chose the center diamond, I brought in matched pears. Once our hunt for the diamonds was taken care of, I started sketching away for Joia! I showed him my sketches and we both agreed on a particular one, that had a small bow on the sides with an even smaller diamond set in each bow. The pears were going to be set in a half "kiss" motif which would swirl down and wrap around the shank of the ring. Once again, I managed to draw a design that I've never done before - then again, there's only one Joia! And so started my discovery of how to make this wonderful design, which was pretty quiet and clean from top view, yet complicated and swirly on the sides!
Here it is:

And yes, I had to test drive it for perfection before I gave it away!

Well, I get attached to every ring that I make. It's a fascinating experience, from a concept to a sketch on paper and ultimately holding it my hand. They all spend sometime here, because I want to make sure they are as perfect as possible. At the end, I can't wait to see it on it's owner's hand!
George, you were absolutely wonderful to work with and congratulations to both of you!
