Custom Designing a Platinum Diamond Wedding Band For Allison

A few months ago, a very lovely young lady came to have a custom made diamond wedding band made for her beautiful engagement ring. Her diamond engagement ring had an antique look to it, with very delicate diamond set band that reminded me of ribbons and a good size center diamond that was set in a an intricate basket that came out of the band considerably. The large center basket design made it difficult to wear a wedding band that would sit flush with the engagement ring. As it is my process with all custom made pieces, I first sketched designs that would complement the engagement ring and at the same time fill in the gaps between engagement ring and wedding band. Allison has long fingers and a long hand structure, her hand could easily handle intricate designs. I have to say that from the three designs that I had sketched for Allison, I did have a favorite and Allison picked that one! It was also the most difficult one! So I set out in my adventure of making the design I had sketched:

My inspiration came from Allison's engagement ring's band. It reminded me of ribbons and so decided to hand make a simple platinum wedding band and then make two separate pieces of platinum that would wrap around the band, much like a wrapped ribbon and nestle on either side of the center diamond of Allison's engagement ring. So I made the platinum band same width as the engagement ring's band and the wrapped platinum ribbons to end up being same width as the section with small diamonds on the engagement ring. Here's Allison wearing her rings!

I really didn't know what I was getting myself into when I sketched this design, because getting the ribbons wrapped perfectly on the band and then getting everything nestle together was pretty complicated. However, as always, once I finished it and then tried it on, I fell in love with it! A very three dimensional, elegant wedding ring, that nestles beautifully next to Allison's engagement ring and at the same time, very complete when worn alone. The ribbons start from one side of the wedding band and end on the opposite side, giving the band two different looks! This is custom made! As personal and as unique it can get! Enjoy your rings, Allison and congratulations to a beautiful couple. I can't wait to see your wedding pictures!
