Cushion Diamond And Leaf Ring

designing an engagement ring

Cushion Diamond and Leaf Ring sketch

This is a new surprise engagement ring that I have designed and I’ll take you behind the scenes to show you step by step how it will transform from a sketch to an engagement ring. I’m not going to mention any names as it’s a surprise! The chosen center stone is a beautiful cushion cut diamond. the ring will be in 18k yellow gold and the leaves will be in platinum, pavé set with brilliant cut diamonds. I’m going to first make the ring in 18k yellow gold, then carve the wax for the leaves so I can get a perfect fit. In m next post, I will show you the gold ring and the wax for the leaves! Stay tuned..

I have the gold ring and the wax leaf carved. Below is an image:

Gold Ring With Hand Carved Leaf

I carved the leaf slightly different from my sketch as this looked more suitable. Next step is to take a mold of the leaf and then cast two platinum leaves. I will have those next week and I’ll post their image!

Hand Carved Wax Cast In Platinum

Here are the two platinum leaves! Wax carving can have its limitations specially on smaller items such as these leaves that may lead to the wax breaking. So any shaping that’s left to be done, I’ll do on these platinum pieces and also adjust them so that they sit beautifully on the shoulders of the ring. Then the platinum leaves will get attached to the already polished ring and the final structure will go to the diamond setter. Stay tuned until I come back with the finished ring with all of its diamonds set!

Here’s Laura’s beautiful gold engagement ring with platinum leaves:
