Cynthia Britt designs your engagement ring according to your desired style, size and shape of the diamond, the shape of the hand and your budget. Along with providing loose diamonds or any colored gem stones for you to choose from, Cynthia Britt will gladly work with your gem stone. Once a custom piece is made, it receives the name of its owner and becomes part of the Cynthia Britt engagement rings collection. The ready made engagement rings can be ordered as they are or they can be modified to your request. The secret in the beauty of Cynthia Britt engagement rings is in the character and feeling of the person that it’s custom made for.
Ring Style
Solitaire
Custom Solitare Diamond Engagement Rings The Solitaire engagement ring is one of the most timeless and elegant styles of an engagement ring. Since the center diamond is the only stone that is set in a solitaire, it is perfect if you want a minimalistic look where the center diamond is the main focus. I strive to make solitaire engagement rings are not comparable to any other solitaire rings. The two most important elements of a solitaire are how the center basket is constructed and the shape and width of the band in comparison to the center stone. I calculate and custom-makes the basket so that the mininum metal is shown from every angle. I make its side view very refined with a beautiful curve. I place the prongs within the base of the basket, following the curved shape, thus allowing the wedding ring to sit very close to the engagagement ring. I make the band either rounded, angled or flat, depending on what looks the most complementary to the center stone and your hand shape. The end result is a beautiful custom-made solitaire mounting that captures every nuance of the diamond and sits beautifully on your hand.
Diamond Band
Gold and Diamond Engagement Bands The Diamond band engagement ring is definitely one of the more eye-catching engagement ring styles. Often categorized as a solitaire, the center stone is set without any other diamonds surrounding it, yet the band is studded with diamonds. What makes the Diamond band engagement ring beautiful is the perfect balance in showing the right amount of diamonds on the band in comparison to the center diamond. The most important factor in a diamond band engagement ring is the width of the band. The next important element is the style of diamond setting. Based on your hand shape, I will design the perfect width and suggest the most suitable setting style. How the band meets the center basket and the height of the center diamond is also determined by your hand shape. The result is a beautiful and sparkly custom-made engagement ring where the center diamond is the main focus with a sweep of diamonds extending out on its well-proportioned band.
Three Stone
The Three Stone engagagement ring is a classic. The center stone is flanked on both sides with the same shape and cut side stones. The side stones are usually smaller and in some instances, such as the vintage style rings, they may almost be same size as the center stone. Once you pick your center stone, I carefully selects side stones that will match in color, clarity and cut grade. I pick the size of the side stones according to your hand shape. If a look with contrast looks more suitable on the hand, I’ll suggest diamonds that are smaller than the center stone. If a full diamond look is more suitable for the hand, then I’ll recommend stones that are closer in size to the center diamond. With all three stones picked, I will then claculate the width and the shape of the band and the height of the baskets in relation to each other. The end result is a beautiful custom-made three stone engagement ring.
Side Stones
The Side Stone engagement ring is an all-time classic. The center stone is flanked on either side with a diamond that has a different shape and cut. The side diamonds need to complement the center stone and the center stone could be a diamond or any colored gem such as a sapphire. The most important element in the Side Stone engagement ring is the cut and shape of the side diamonds in relation to the center gem. Harmony between the center stone and its accompanying side stones is what makes the Side stone engagement ring. With my vast knowledge of the different shapes and cuts of the diamonds that are available, even the unsual ones, once the center stone is chosen, I’ll suggest side diamonds that will enhance the beauty of the center stone, complement the hand and ulitmately capture the character of the person wearing it. With the stones chosen, I make a mounting that shows off a beautiful sweep of three complementary gems. Halo
The halo engagement ring is definitely one of the more sparkly engagement ring styles. The center diamond, which can be any shape, is surrounded with small diamonds resembling a diamond frame. The most important element in a Halo engagement ring is the proportion between the halo and the center stone. The next important element is the proportion between the band and the entire top section of the ring. I choose the width of the halo according to the center stone’s size, shape and overall hand structure. For example, an emerald cut stone with its clean and tailored look will require a more tailored halo such as the case in Roxana Halo Diamond Engagement ring. The halo enhances and brings out the beauty of the center stone. On the other hand, a round brilliant cut diamond can handle both a narrow halo and a halo with a little more width to it. The way I choose is based on your hand structure. Diamond Shape
Round
The round brilliant cut diamond is the most classic shape diamond and it’s suitable for most hand shapes. Only if your finger tips are square, then I would recommend a different diamond shape that would be more complementary for your hand. Round brilliant cut diamonds show color, but they don’t show inclusions easily because of their facets. You have a certain budget to spend, therefore, if you like a larger diamond, you can go a little lower in the clarity grading, as long as the inclusion is not eye visible, but don’t sacrifice color, since you’ll see it more easily. Another attribute that I highly recommend not sacrificing is the “Cut grade”. According to GIA, there are five cut grades and they range from Excellent to Poor. How a diamond is cut and polished directly effects the amount of sparkle and brilliance that comes off it. I personally recommend Cut grades “Excellent”, “Very good” and at least “Good”. Cushion
The technical term for cushion cut diamond is Cushion Modified Brilliant. It has the facets of a brilliant cut but in a cushion shape. It’s a shape that works well for most hand structures. It’s also great if your finger tips are slightly curved and if you want a little more length than a round brilliant cut offers. Cushion cut diamonds have the characteristics of round brilliant cut diamonds – they will show color but they won’t show inclusions as easily. It’s up to you which one of the 4 C’s is more important, however, you have a certain budget to spend and if you are looking for a larger diamond, you can go slightly lower in clarity as long as the inclusion is not eye visible but don’t sacrifice color. As you can see from the image above, cushion cut diamonds come in different proportions and shapes. Some are more elongated, such as the first one on the left, some are a perfect cushion shape, such as the first one on the right, and some have a more square shape, such as the second one from the right. Princess
The princess cut diamond with its perfect square and geometric shape is definitely for a unique personality. Princess cut diamond looks great in a more contemporary style engagement ring. If you have a quiet and more private personality, the princess cut may not be the most suitable cut and style of diamond for you. As for hand structure, it usually looks best if your fingers line up straight next to each other and your finger tips have a more squared-off shape versus rounded. The princess cut diamond is a very interesting cut, since it has the facets of a brilliant cut in a completely square shape. Unlike other brilliant cut diamonds, princess cuts somehow don’t show color as easily and inclusions are not easily seen either. The polish and symmetry are important. Since a princess cut diamond is supposed to be a perfect square, it should have a length to width ratio of 1.0 to 1.05. Emerald
The emerald cut diamond is the most timeless and elegant shape diamond. If your finger tips are more squared off, if your fingers line up straight next to each other, or if you have a larger hand, emerald cut diamond is a suitable shape for you. It’s also a matter of personality, if you want quiet elegance, then the emerald cut is perfect for you. Emerald cut diamonds somehow don’t show color the way round brilliant cut diamonds do. However, they show inclusions very easily. My advice would be not to sacrifice the clarity and definitely don’t sacrifice the shape proportion. What makes an emerald cut diamond have a beautiful shape and ideal proportion is its length to width ratio. First thing that you’ll notice, when you compare emerald cut diamonds, is their overall shape. There are narrow emerald cuts, perfect rectangular emerald cuts and more square looking emerald cut diamonds. A beautiful rectangular emerald cut diamond will have a length to width ratio of 1.36 to 1.44, with the most perfect at 1.4. Asscher Cut Asscher cut diamonds have a quiet look, although not as quiet as emerald cut diamonds and they have a square shape versus rectangular. They look great in art-deco style settings also with other geometric shape side stones. In general, a ring with an Asscher cut diamond will have a clean look. Similar to other geometric shape stones such as emerald cut and princess cut diamonds, they look great on fingers that line up straight next to each other and if your finger tips are more square than rounded. The Asscher cut diamond is very unique. You can’t really compromise on any of its qualities as everything is eye visible. Because of their facets, inclusions will show. Unlike emerald cut diamonds, they will also show color more easily and their proportion of length to width ratio needs to be between 1 and 1.05. Someone who will voice what she likes and dislikes. It’s a great shape as it has the precision of an emerald cut yet the busyness of a round brilliant cut. As for the hand structure, similar to all other geometric shape stones, they’re great if your fingers line up straight next to each other or if your finger tips have a more square shape versus rounded. The technical name for an oval shape diamond is Oval Brilliant. The facets are similar to a round brilliant but in an oval shape diamond. Oval shape diamonds are very suitable for small hands and for hands that have a very rounded or pointy finger tips. Similar to round brilliant cut diamonds, in oval shape diamonds the inclusions are not easily seen but they will show color. The other important characteristic about oval diamonds is their overall shape, this means their length to width ratio. An oval diamond should not be too narrow and it should not be too wide. The ideal length to width ratio for a beautifully proportioned oval diamond is between 1.35 to 1.48. Given the color, the clarity, carat weight and the ideal proportion of the oval shape diamond, it’s up to you which one of these qualities is more important. However, since the color and the overall shape of an oval diamond are immediately visible, my recommendation will be not to sacrifice these two qualities.
