All rings are special and it certainly is a process from the beginning when I sketch designs on paper, until when I present the customer with the finished piece of jewelry. The “Kim O” ring is a special journey and here is its story:
During the third week in April, Kim who’s out of state, contacted me regarding re-setting her 2.47 carats diamond in a new mounting. She was interested in the “Princess” ring, which is on my website, and wanted a platinum three-stone ring that would be in a substantial mounting without the open-gallery work that appears on the sides of the “Princess” ring.
I asked Kim to send me an image of her hand so I can sketch a few choices that would be suitable for her hand, incorporating the style that she likes. Below is the image of the page that I had scanned and emailed to her:
Based on the structure of Kim’s hand, I suggested the first design with the pear-shape diamonds. I also drew a life-size version so that she could cut-out and wrap around her finger.
She did pick the first design. The next step was for me to make the wax model according to Kim’s diamond’s measurements and suitable pear shape diamonds and then ship it to Kim. Below are a couple of images that I took prior to shipping her the wax model and cubic zerconia round and pear shape stones that she could put in the wax to get a better sense of how the ring would look:
Once Kim received the wax model, she tried it on and put her diamond in the middle along with the CZ pears on the sides. It fit perfectly!
Next step, Kim sent the wax model and her 2.47 carats diamond back to me so I could match pear shape diamonds for her stone and eventually make the ring and set all of the diamonds.
Once I received Kim’s diamond, I matched it up with the following pear shape diamonds that were H color, VS clarity. Here’s an image that I sent to kim:
And finally, I finished the ring:
And here it is, the “Kim O” ring all packaged up ready to ship to Kim for Mother’s Day !
Once Kim’s diamond finished it’s journey and went back in a brand new gorgeous setting, Kim called me and she said that she loves her new ring!!
It was definitely a challenge, a joy and a journey to make the perfect ring for Kim’s hand and the joy in Kim voice on the phone was truly a big gift for me. Enjoy your gorgeous ring Kim, and wear it in happiness !
