Kate’s fiancé had a surprise engagement ring in mind! He showed me a few pictures of Kate, who is an incredibly lovely young lady. Outside of her professional life, she has a very active lifestyle. She’s an avid runner and a spinning instructor.
For the style of the engagement ring, he liked the idea of a halo and he wanted the ring to capture Kate’s personality. Something elegant yet whimsical and fun. A timeless and stylish design. From the images, for her hand shape, I suggested a cushion cut diamond. He liked the idea so I brought in a couple of cushion cut diamonds to look at and choose from. Kate’s fiancé picked out the most expensive one!
Now that the center diamond was chosen, I sketched designs that captured Kate’s personality and style and showed off the beauty of the chosen diamond. From my suggestions, Kate’s fiancé picked out the most creative and fun design. The cushion cut diamond would be four-prong set on top of a cushion shape center design pavé set with diamonds. The band would rise up from both sides and hold the cushion in the air.
I did all the calculations and then made the ring in two pieces; the top cushion design and the band section. Here’s an image of the two pieces.
First, I hand-filed the top cushion section into the exact shape I had in mind. Then, I had the cushion and the band section each pre-polished and then assembled together. Here’s an image of the ring after it was assembled together:
I measured each section of the ring that was going to be set with diamonds and then I ordered the appropriate size diamonds. Here’s the result!
Kate and her fiancé had planned a trip to California. During their visit, they were going to climb a local mountain. When they reached the top, Kate’s fiancé surprised her by asking her to marry him with the beautiful ring that he had asked me to custom make. Kate’s fiancé is a fantastic photographer. To capture the moment, he carried his photography equipment in his back pack and took the most beautiful pictures.
Congratulations to a very lovely couple and thank you for sharing your beautiful images!
